About SEEC
The Saudi Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC) is responsible for improving the efficiency of energy production and consumption across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It coordinates efforts among governmental and non-governmental entities to preserve the Kingdom’s natural energy resources. In line with its mandates, the center develops the necessary regulations to curb excessive energy consumption and promote optimal energy usage—ensuring continued growth and sustainability without compromising the well-being of society.
SEEC Establishment
2010
- • A Royal Decree was issued in Dhul-Qi’dah 1431 AH (2010 AD) to establish the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center as the entity responsible for leading national energy efficiency programs.
2012
- • SEEC began formulating the Saudi Energy Efficiency Program in Rajab 1433 AH, focusing on the highest energy-consuming sectors: industry, buildings, and land transport.
2013
- • SEEC launched its first awareness initiatives on energy efficiency in cooperation with more than 30 governmental and semi-governmental entities. Over 100 initiatives were implemented, ranging from feasibility studies to design and execution.
2018
- • SEEC is mandate was expanded to include energy use in electricity generation, water desalination, electricity transmission and distribution, and feedstock use in the industrial sector.
2020
- • SEEC adopted a clear vision and mission aligned with strategic goals. A number of initiatives and enablers were introduced to ensure tangible outcomes in energy efficiency and contribute to the goals of Vision 2030.
2030
- • By end of 2030, energy efficiency efforts are expected to reduce energy consumption by one million barrels of oil equivalent daily compared to a business-as-usual scenario.
