Energy Efficiency Sectors
The Saudi Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC) adopts a strategic approach that focuses on the highest energy-consuming sectors in the Kingdom, with the goal of achieving effective and sustainable national-level improvements in energy efficiency. Data shows that over 90% of total energy consumption in the Kingdom is concentrated in three main sectors, in addition to the utilities sector, which plays a vital role in the national energy system. In the industrial sector, SEEC works to enhance operational efficiency in key industries such as petrochemicals, cement, and steel, through structured energy management programs and the establishment of consumption intensity reduction targets, In the building sector, the Center focuses on improving electricity consumption efficiency, particularly in air conditioning and lighting, by enforcing the Saudi Building Code and developing energy performance standards for appliances and thermal insulation. In the land transportation sector, SEEC aims to improve fuel economy by promoting the use of the Vehicle Fuel Economy Label and tire efficiency labeling, in addition to encouraging the adoption of more efficient transportation alternatives. As for the utilities sector, the Center collaborates with relevant entities to enhance the efficiency of power generation and water desalination plants, and to reduce losses in transmission and distribution networks. These efforts support resource sustainability and improve energy performance across the entire utilities value chain.
